The new year started out with a bang! We had a great
attendance to the luncheon--a total of 146. THANK YOU.
Also 20 members called in stating they could not make it,
but an additional 15 did not call.
This is your club and your efforts to attend the luncheon
is greatly appreciated by all members. Hopefully we will increase the
attendance during 2012.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO BRING IN MORE NEW MEMBERS IN 2012.
As you know, some members cannot attend due to health
reasons, and we have lost a few members because of this.
We need to recruit new members in order to keep our branch
viable for the long term.
This is where you come in. Take notice of your
friends and neighbors that might like to join and become part of our group.
MAKE THIS ONE OF YOUR PRIORITIES IN 2012.

SAYS:
Our guest speaker this month is Carolyn Siegfried from Hope
Hospice. The compassionate care that Carolyn witnessed while her
father-in-law was a Hope Hospice patient, led her to become a volunteer.
In her words, It felt natural to join the staff. She speaks to a wide
variety of individuals and groups to discuss the caring support and services
that Hope Hospice provides our Tri-Valley community. You may recognize
Carolyn as past host of Mayor’s Report
on Tri-Valley Community Television, where she continues to moderate local election
forums.
Hope Hospice has been supporting hospice patients,
their families and the grieving in our community since 1980.

January 5th, 95% of the people attending the meeting paid their annual donation!

we will continue to collect the annual member donations at our next meeting on

Branch 34 are preferred, and will increase the chances that the money gets

number of lunches to prepare 10 days prior to
the meeting. When you email or call, give your name and your badge number.
Note: If a member knows a month or more in advance
they will be missing a meeting, there are future month sign up sheets at the
attendance table. Please take advantage of this service so you are not marked as
unexcused.
We use the badges to prepare our
head count reports. If you do not pick

CARINGBRIDGE
Caringbridge is an organization that offers easy-to-create
websites that help connect family and friends in time of need such as during
recovery from an accident or illness. This service is free and can be accessed
at www.caringbridge.com.
The way it works is that the author establishes the
website that is accessed through their website and publishes information that
he or she wishes known about the subject person. Only the established author
can post information. In addition to providing status updates, the author can
request help. Access to the site is controlled because only those to whom the
author has given the site address within the caringbridge website can access
it.
The branch 34 Executive Committee has decided to support
this program and the immediate Past Big Sir will be the contact. For this year
that is Dick Salvas, phone 925-606-7189, or email: ersalvas@hotmail.com. If you have any interest in this, I urge you
to check out the website for further information or contact me for help.

Sir Branch #34 Bridge group held its
monthly game on Tuesday January 10th. We had five tables of players; The

Some of the SIRs wood carvers take on
projects that are “above and Beyond” in nature. Don Carter (121) has really
tackled one of that needs high lighting for our attention. Don found a mould
from a local business that featured a relief carving of Michelangelo’s painting
of “Creation” painted in the Sistine chapel in Rome, Italy. Don developed a
process to transfer from the mould a relief carving in fiberglass that he could
have at his home. The process was necessary to protect the mould and provide a
relief carving that was lighter in weight than it would be in wood. Don’s
effort ended up using eight and a half gallons of resin and a finished weight
of 80 lbs. Don has the large relief attached firmly on the wall outside of his
house. This is truly an impressive project.
The SIRs
woodcarvers meet on Tuesday from 9am-4pm and on Thursday 6 – 8 pm at the
Pleasanton Senior Center Wood Shop. This group is open to all interested in
learning & participating in the art of wood carving, whether experienced or
a beginner. Remember, no experience is necessary to learn how to carve. We will
get you started with safety and easy to do projects and progress from there. No
tools or wood are necessary to start. If you are interested, call me at
925-443-5632. Come and join us for a fun experience.

SIR Racing at Golden Gate Fields
SIR's day at the
races will be on Friday, April 20th, 2012.
As usual, the event will be held at the Turf Club. The tickets are $27 per person and include:
Valet parking, admission and reserved seating, daily racing program, a luncheon
buffet (including prime rib and delicious desserts), and tax and tip for the
food servers. Gates open at 11:00 a.m., and lunch at 11:30 a.m.. The first race is at 12:45 p.m..
If you are interested in attending, please write a check for $27
times the number of attendees (family
and friends are invited). Make the
checks out to Nino Pompilio. I, in turn,
will write a check for the total amount of attendees to Golden Gate
Fields. They will send me the admission
tickets and I will distribute them. This
has been a fun event for our Branch in
the past and should continue to be so.
I will be available to collect the checks at our February and March luncheon.
If needed, the April luncheon will be the last date for last minute
signups. Don't delay!
